Published on the occasion of an exhibition titled "The Wild, the Beautiful and the Damned," but not specifically documenting the show, this volume features seven well-illustrated chapters that explore the concept and pursuit of beauty in England during the late 17th and early 18th century, especially at the court of Charles II (1630-1685), reproducing paintings by Peter Lely, Godfrey Kneller and other artists who executed portraits of the King, members of the royal household and the many mistresses of Charles II and his courtiers.
