Taking its title from the German word Ostalgie, a term that emerged in the 1990s to describe a sense of nostalgia for the era before the collapse of the Communist Bloc, this catalogue accompanied an exhibition that presented paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos and other works produced over the past two decades by more than 50 Russian and Eastern European artists (among them Miroslaw Balka, Erik Bulatov, Boris Mikhailov, Anri Sala and Roman Ondak) alongside works addressing related political and cultural themes by Simon Starling, Tacita Dean, Jonas Mekas and several other Western European and American artists.
