Documenting a conceptual work in which German philosopher Scheppe examined two obsessive attempts at "archiving" Venice by juxtaposing images from Ruskin's Venice notebooks with a previously unpublished cache of photographs of the city by Alvio Gavagnin (b. 1944), a resident of Venice's working-class district, this book was published on the occasion of "Villa Frankenstein," the British Pavilion exhibition at the 12th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, but does not specifically document the show.
