This catalogue examines the wartime and postwar provenance of a painting and a drawing by Dutch artist Jan Toorop (1858-1928) that were brought to the Netherlands in 1937 by fleeing German Jewish businessman Ernst Flersheim and subsequently acquired by the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, featuring numerous letters and other archival documents that illuminate the circumstances surrounding the Museum's acquisition of the works and their eventual restitution to Flersheim's heirs.
