Documenting an exhibition designed to illuminate the fertile interplay between early photography and other graphic media in the development of natural-history illustration in mid-19th-century England, this catalogue presents six substantial essays along with reproductions of more than 200 botanical and floral images that include traditional drawings and prints as well as "photogenic drawings" (photographs produced without a camera), "nature prints" (direct imprints from plants) and mounted botanical specimens, the selection emphasizing the pioneering work of British artist Anna Atkins (1799-1871) and such contemporaries as William Henry Fox Talbot and John Herschel.
