KAY ROSEN: LIFELI{K}E. Cornelia H. Butler et al. Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and Otis Gallery, Otis College of Art and Design, Los Angeles, 1998. 96 pp. with 64 ills. (35 col.). 26 x 22 cm. ISBN 0914357689 In English.
Surveys the text-based oeuvre of American artist Rosen through a presentation of works dating chiefly from the 1980s and 90s, the selection featuring canvases, works on paper and large-scale wall paintings in which letters, words or brief phrases are manipulated to create ironic commentaries on a broad range of cultural, political and gender-related issues. A text by Rosen augments two critical essays that examine the artist's career-long exploration of the interplay of linguistic and visual modes of expression and discuss the relationship of her works to the text compositions of Jenny Holzer and Barbara Kruger.
