Examining the activities of a little-studied group of progressive German painters active in turn-of-the-century Hamburg, this catalogue presents five essays and fine reproductions of 54 canvases and 18 works on paper produced from 1893 to 1910 by Arthur Siebelist, Ernst Eitner, Franz Nolken, Arthur Illies and ten other artists, the selection including landscapes, urban views, genre scenes, portraits and interiors reflecting in particular the influence of French Impressionism.
