Surveying the drawn oeuvre of a German artist best known for his social documentary photographs of turn-of-the-century Berlin, this catalogue presents five scholarly essays and a selection of critical texts dating from 1913 to 1931 along with excellent reproductions of more than 225 drawings and some 25 prints executed by Zille (1858-1929) from 1873 to 1920, including many cartoon-like urban genre studies embodying satirical commentaries on life among the working class and the bourgeoisie.
