Presenting a detailed study of the celebrated visionary sculptural environment built single-handedly from 1921 to 1955 by Italian-born folk artist Simon Rodia (1879-1965) in the Watts district of Los Angeles, this publication includes extensive photographic documentation of the Watts Towers site along with a substantial text tracing Rodia's life and the construction, ornamentation and preservation of his ambitious project, a complex of unconventional structures featuring three monumental open-form steel and cement spires encrusted with pottery shards, fragments of colored glass and other found materials.
