Surveying the career of a Dutch artist whose oeuvre represents a singular synthesis of sculpture, interior design and architecture, this primarily pictorial catalogue showcases more than 150 works produced by Joep van Lieshout (b. 1963) and his studio from 1983 to 1997, including monolithic sculptures composed of beer crates and paving stones, brightly colored rectilinear furniture pieces and bathroom fixtures cast in polyester resins, modular mobile living units, and coffin-like "desire machines" that function as isolation chambers. Includes brief critical texts and statements by the artist along with a series of step-by-step "construction manuals."
