One of three catalogues issued in conjunction with a series of photography exhibitions exploring aspects of the American immigrant experience (see also Worldwide 56825 and 56826), this publication includes two essays tracing the history of U.S. immigration and its photographic documentation along with reproductions of some 100 works produced from the 1860s to 1995 by such noted artists as Muybridge, Riis, Hine, Lange and Freed and by dozens of lesser-known or anonymous figures, the images ranging from portraits of newly arrived immigrants to depictions of domestic and workplace scenes, detention centers and border patrols.
