Presents some 25 paintings and more than 80 drawings, prints and other works from an extensive private collection of Russian art acquired by the Museum in 1990, the diverse selection encompassing several icons, numerous 18th- and 19th-century portrait, landscape and history paintings, and a group of early 20th-century stage and costume designs. Critical commentaries on many of the featured works supplement four essays that include a lengthy overview of developments in Russian art from 1700 to 1930 and a discussion of the activities of Russian emigre artists in Berlin, Paris and New York during the early Soviet period.
