Surveying works by a Canadian artist who explores in his conceptually oriented projects both traditional forms and new modes of public art, this catalogue documents ten photographs, a 1993 film, and eleven realized or proposed public art works designed by Lewis (b. 1957) from 1989 to 1993, including the installation in Canadian cities of replicas of a discarded Soviet statue of Lenin, the placement of odor-dispensing machines on the streets of Montreal, and several proposals for "propaganda" monuments in Moscow. Two critical essays are complemented by extensive commentaries on the featured projects.
