ALLAN WEXLER: STRUCTURES FOR REFLECTION -- DIE KLEINEN GEBAUDE, EINRICHTUNGEN UND UTENSILIEN VON ALLAN WEXLER/THE SMALL BUILDINGS, FURNITURE AND UTENSILS OF ALLAN WEXLER. Karl Ernst Osthaus-Museum, Hagen, 1993. 144 pp. with 138 ills. (44 col.). 21 x 15 cm. ISBN 3926242140 Bilingual in German and English.
Thoroughly surveys the inventive oeuvre of American sculptor Wexler (b. 1949) through a presentation of more than 80 "low-tech" architectural and furniture constructions and sculptural objects produced over the past two decades, the works ranging from picket fence benches and rough models of buildings and interiors to portable pavilions and a series of pseudo-functional wheeled "crate rooms" packed with household furnishings. Three concise essays discussing Wexler's ingenious investigations of architectural conventions and patterns of human behavior are complemented by the artist's commentaries on the featured works.
