DAS BILD DER AUSSTELLUNG/THE IMAGE OF THE EXHIBITION: RUDOLF BUMILLER, ERNST CARAMELLE, FRANCOIS CHABRILLAT, RENE DANIELS, LOUISE LAWLER, THOMAS STRUTH. Markus Bruderlin et al. Exploring the historical and current status of the exhibition as a "medium" for the presentation of art works and its role as a theme in contemporary art, this catalogue presents a selection of conceptually oriented pieces by six noted international figures that ranges from photographic images of museum visitors and pristine gallery spaces by Struth and Lawler to Caramelle's display of advertisements for and published documentation of actual and fictitious shows of his work. Individual texts by or about the featured artists augment four essays that include discussions of the evolution of museum exhibitions and the impact of the gallery setting on the art displayed as well as a sociological analysis of the responses of visitors to a recent show of site-specific installations.
