Documenting the celebrated collection of medieval art works housed in the cathedral of Quedlinburg, this scholarly catalogue presents fine reproductions and individual discussions of more than 50 objects dating from the early Christian period to the 16th century, among them three illuminated manuscripts, carved crystal vessels, ecclesiastical textiles and numerous reliquaries in gold, silver and ivory. An account of the recent recovery of ten pieces taken from the treasury during World War II is followed by two essays tracing the history of Quedlinburg and the cathedral collection.
