Accompanying an exhibition of nearly 100 works that were extensively documented in the catalogue of the 1992 Paris show Rouault: Premiere periode, 1903-1920 (Worldwide 23488), this volume includes good illustrations of 32 expressionistic watercolors, paintings and ceramic pieces by the major French artist (1871-1958) along with two essays discussing the formative influences on his development and his independent position among European modernists of the early 20th century.
