IGOR SACHAROW-ROSS. Ed. by Evelyn Weiss. Gosudarstvennaia Tret'iakovskaia galereia, Moscow, 1993. Published by Prestel-Verlag, Munich. 160 pp. with 163 ills. (89 col.). 31 x 25 cm. LC 94-104129 ISBN 3791312480 Bilingual in German and Russian.
Thoroughly reviewing the diverse oeuvre of Russian artist Sacharow-Ross (b. 1947), this catalogue features fine reproductions of more than 80 works produced primarily since his immigration to Germany in 1979, including schematic mixed-media abstractions, wall-mounted box installations, paintings and collages on segmented wood panels, and monumental images of leaf forms, variously reflecting the influence of Byzantine icons, Siberian shamanism and Russian Constructivism. Three essays examine the formation of Sacharow-Ross's thematic and stylistic concerns in the 1970s, analyze an allusive columnar sculpture produced by the artist in 1980, and describe 14 performance pieces created from 1975 to 1988.
