Thoroughly reviewing the career of Czech painter Kotik (b. 1916), a leading figure in postwar abstract art in his native country who has worked in the West since 1969, this two-part catalogue presents seven critical essays and fine reproductions of some 70 paintings, drawings, paper collages and sculptural works, including early Cubist-inspired figure studies, vibrantly expressive abstractions from the 1950s and 60s, and numerous examples of the gestural shaped-canvas compositions that have dominated the artist's oeuvre over the past two decades.
