Prefaced by several short texts discussing the renowned art collection assembled by Francis I (1494-1547) and describing the King's patronage of major painters of his time, this catalogue features reproductions and scholarly entries documenting some 70 diverse works, including masterpieces by Leonardo, Raphael and Andrea del Sarto once part of the royal collection, depictions of the King by such artists as Clouet, Titian, Vasari, Veronese, Bonington and Ingres, and drawings and sculptures produced for the decoration of his palace at Fontainebleau.
