This scholarly examination of the art of enameling in the late Middle Ages showcases an elaborately decorated Franco-Flemish silver casket (ca. 1410-20) from the Regensburg Cathedral along with some 20 other outstanding objects from European collections, including enameled spoons, cups and medallions and four Italian textile works selected to illustrate related techniques and motifs. Fine reproductions and lengthy individual analyses of the featured pieces are accompanied by four essays discussing early 15th-century workshops at the French courts, the development of enameling techniques during the period, and the recent restoration of the Regensburg casket.
