MASHEL TEITELBAUM: A RETROSPECTIVE. Robert Fulford et al. McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Kleinburg, 1992. Organized and published in association with Art Gallery of Hamilton; Art Gallery of Windsor; Justina M. Barnicke Gallery, University of Toronto; and Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Kitchener. 128 pp. with 77 ills. (30 col.). 28 x 22 cm. ISBN 0919837344 In English.
Documents five exhibitions surveying the highly independent career of Canadian painter Teitelbaum (1921-1985), illustrating some 60 chiefly expressionistic compositions which range from figurative paintings and gestural abstractions to conceptual works of the late 1960s and allusive portraits and vibrant landscapes from the 1970s. A detailed biographical chronology and a short reprinted interview supplement two critical essays discussing Teitelbaum's varied oeuvre, his ambivalent attitude toward modernism, the impact of psychological problems on his career, and his frequently critical views of the Canadian art establishment.
