Providing the first thorough study of the enigmatic oeuvre of German artist Seidel, this catalogue presents full-page reproductions of some 90 paintings and drawings which range from gestural monochromatic canvases to geometric abstractions and calligraphic drawings produced in New York between 1964 and the artist's suicide in 1971. Eleven texts include personal tributes to Seidel by Friedel Dzubas and Willi Sitte as well as essays discussing the painter's troubled life, the impact of his psychological problems on the course of his artistic development, and his career in Germany and the United States.
