LC 92-224612 In English; interview with the artist and essay also in German, Swedish and French.
Surveys appropriation-based pieces produced from 1977 to 1991 by Levine (b. 1947), including photographs, paintings and installations overtly alluding to works by Evans, Malevich, Duchamp, Man Ray and other artists as well as intentionally generic geometric abstractions and serial images of cartoon characters. A critical essay and an interview with the American artist clarify the concepts underlying her manipulation of art historical and cultural references.
