Surveys the socially and politically engaged oeuvre of New York-based Uruguayan artist Camnitzer (b. 1937), illustrating a diverse array of conceptually oriented assemblages and installations frequently composed of photographs, texts and found materials. Enhanced by three reprinted texts by the artist, two critical essays discuss Camnitzer's treatment of such themes as political repression in Latin America and the environmental impact of the Vietnam War, and explore his views of language, culture, politics and the moral dimensions of art.
