FRED SANDBACK: SCULPTURE. Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston, and Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, 1989. Published 1991. Distributed by University of Washington Press, Seattle. 48 pp. with 28 ills. (9 col.). 28 x 21 cm. LC 91-65517 ISBN 0894670565 In English.
Surveying distinctive Minimalist installations by American sculptor Sandback (b. 1943), this slim catalogue presents photographs of 14 site-specific works (configurations of colored strands of yarn outlining large geometric volumes and planes) along with illustrations of related prints and drawings. Four short critical essays discuss the development of Sandback's oeuvre since the late 1960s and explore the significance of his prints and drawings, which function both as preparatory exercises for and permanent records of his ephemeral works.
