OP LIGHTSEED: CY TWOMBLY, WOLFGANG LAIB, MICHEL VERJUX. Harald Szeemann. Watari-um (Watari Museum of Contemporary Art), Tokyo, 1990. 116 pp. with 43 ills. (15 col., 4 tipped-in). 28 x 22 cm. ISBN 4900398128 Bilingual in Japanese and English.
Presenting works linked by their emphasis on light as a spiritual emblem, this catalogue illustrates a selection of abstract canvases, drawings and sculptures by American painter Twombly (b. 1928), nine contemplative sculptural works of the 1980s fashioned by German artist Laib (b. 1950) from pollen, beeswax and other natural materials, and ten installations composed of projected patterns of light created by French artist Verjux (b. 1956) since the early 80s. Short critical essays discuss the importance of light as a theme and as a vehicle of expression in the works of each artist.
