The first thorough examination of the neglected achievements of Rhineland Expressionist Ophey (1882-1930), a leading member of the progressive Dusseldorf art community in the 1910s and 20s whose oeuvre consists primarily of landscapes and city views variously reflecting the influence of Van Gogh and of Cubism. Features excellent reproductions of more than 100 paintings and drawings, an extensive biographical chronology, a text by the artist, and four critical essays examining his stylistic development, his distinctive crayon drawings and his printmaking.
