TOTI SCIALOJA: OPERE DAL 1940 AL 1991 (Toti Scialoja: Works from 1940 to 1991). Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, Rome, 1991. Published by Edizioni della Cometa, Rome. 232 pp. with 159 ills. (120 col.). 27 x 23 cm. In Italian (six reprinted texts in English or French only).
Offering an excellent pictorial survey of the varied oeuvre of Italian artist Scialoja (b. 1914), a prominent figure in postwar abstract art in Rome, this catalogue features full-page reproductions of 120 paintings reflecting the artist's interest in cubist and expressionist aesthetics during the 1950s, his exploration of hard-edge geometric abstraction in the 60s, and his adoption of a bold gestural style in the late 70s. Two brief introductory essays supplement a substantial critical anthology and a detailed biographical text.
