Features six recent installations by Chilean-born, New York artist Jaar (b. 1956) which employ maps and photographs mounted in light boxes and oil drums to document a specific incident -- the dumping of toxic wastes from Europe in a Nigerian village in the late 1980s -- and to broadly address the exploitation of Third World countries by industrialized nations. Four essays discuss the international cultural issues central to Jaar's work, his artistic techniques and socio-political perspective, and the continuing repercussions of European colonialism in Africa.
