THE CONTINUOUS PRESENT OF ORGANIC ARCHITECTURE. Sidney K. Robinson and Elizabeth A. Scheurer. Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati, 1991. 80 pp. with 63 ills. (15 col.). 25 x 26 cm. ISBN 0917562569 In English.
Traces the evolution of American organic architecture as exemplified in the work of six notable figures, beginning with the nature-based approaches of early 20th-century architects Louis Sullivan and Walter Burley Griffin and extending through eccentric, chiefly residential projects of the 1950s and 60s by Bruce Goff and Herb Greene to recent highly sculptural designs by Greene, Terry Brown and Bart Prince. Two brief introductory texts and a lengthy essay explore and contrast the architects' personal design philosophies, discussing the organic style as a distinctively American phenomenon in its emphasis on individuality and on the use of unconventional forms and materials.
