BRAVO 20: THE BOMBING OF THE AMERICAN WEST. Richard Misrach and Myriam Weisang Misrach. Donna Beam Fine Art Gallery, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 1990. Organized by Friends of Photography, San Francisco. Published by Johns Hopkins University Press, Baltimore. Creating the North American Landscape. 150 pp. with 87 ills. (38 col.). 24 x 32 cm. LC 90-34150 ISBN 0801840643 In English.
Features full-page reproductions of some 30 striking images by American photographer Misrach (b. 1949) depicting the devastated, wreckage-strewn landscape of a large desert area in Nevada which has been used for decades as a bombing range by the U.S. Navy. A lengthy text based on the Misrachs' archival research, explorations of the region and interviews with local residents presents a history of the "Bravo 20" site and a critique of the military's misuse of public lands throughout the West. Complementing Misrach's photographs is his detailed illustrated proposal for the transformation of the site into a national environmental monument.
