Featuring many previously unpublished works from private collections, this catalogue presents 68 still lifes and figure studies by Filla (1882-1953), the leading exponent and theorist of Cubism in Czechoslovakia, along with 90 paintings, works on paper and sculptures by 20 Czech modernists (among them Josef Capek and Otto Gutfreund) who were influenced by Cubist aesthetics. Numerous full-page reproductions are accompanied by an introductory description of the origins and special characteristics of Czech Cubism and a reprinted text by Kokoschka discussing Filla's imagery.
