The last in a series of five publications focusing on specific clothmaking techniques as reflected in textiles from diverse cultures and historical periods, this slim catalogue examines the methods of creating pile surfaces and discusses a wide range of pile fabrics from the Institute's collection, including hand-knotted rugs from the Near East, silk velvets from Renaissance Italy and the Orient, and velveteens and corduroys of European and American manufacture.
