30 YEARS OF TB-9: A TRIBUTE TO ROBERT ARNESON. John Natsoulas Gallery, Davis, 1991. 158 pp. with 133 ills. 28 x 22 cm. In English.
Presenting a range of sculptural works created largely during the 1960s and 70s by some 50 artists once affiliated with the ceramics program of the University of California at Davis (among them Richard Shaw, Deborah Butterfield and David Gilhooly), this catalogue illuminates the role of Arneson (b. 1930) in establishing a distinctive figurative mode of clay sculpture. Includes a series of informal commentaries in which the featured artists reflect on their experiences at the TB-9 studio and on the influence of Arneson's teaching; an introductory essay assessing the impact of the California Funk style on American ceramic art; and a lengthy interview with Arneson tracing the development of the renowned Davis program.
