Surveying the paintings, drawings and prints of French-Mexican artist Charlot (1898-1979), best known for his influential involvement in the Mexican mural movement of the 1920s, this catalogue presents 61 bold portraits, figure studies and narrative works dating mainly from the 20s and 30s which reflect his deep interest in folk art and Aztec iconography. Six essays include detailed discussions of Charlot's career as an artist and teacher (mainly in the United States) and of his book illustrations, portraits and depictions of the nude.
