JOOST BALJEU. Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, 1991. 72 pp. with 64 ills. (8 col.). 27 x 21 cm. ISBN 9050060544 Bilingual in Dutch and English.
Surveying geometric abstractions created from 1952 to 1990 by Dutch artist Baljeu (b. 1925), a leading figure in the postwar revival of Constructivism in the Netherlands, this catalogue documents a selection of 41 architectonic steel sculptures and wall-mounted reliefs of brightly painted rectilinear shapes. Two essays situate Baljeu's experiments with form, space and color in the context of postwar movements and discuss in detail his stylistic development as influenced by Mondrian's abstractions and the Structurist theories of American artist Charles Biederman.
