Showcases a recent series of 25 colorful mixed-media works and grisaille drawings on canvas in which well-known Italian artist Baj (b. 1924) presents erotic reinterpretations of biblical and mythological subjects characterized by kitsch-like renderings of traditional imagery. Including fine reproductions of 30 additional works from the 1950s through the 80s representative of Baj's expressive, surreal style, the catalogue features two critical essays (one reprinted) discussing his distinctive symbolism, and an interview with the artist that clarifies his metaphysical, social and political concerns.
