The first thorough study of the Shaker settlement established at Groveland in western New York, this catalogue presents a detailed history of the community (1836-92) and its relationship to larger settlements near Albany, incorporating excerpts from contemporary documents and the diaries of two women briefly associated with the group. Period photographs of the buildings and residents of the community are reproduced along with some 40 examples of the baskets, furniture, tools and textiles produced at the Groveland site.
