OP WILLIAM T. WILEY: STRUCK! SURE? SOUND/UNSOUND. Terrie Sultan et al. Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., 1991. 44 pp. (3 foldout) with 22 ills. (9 col.). 28 x 18 cm. LC 91-14652 ISBN 0886750377 In English.
Surveys works based on musical themes created over the past decade by Bay Area artist Wiley (b. 1937), who has been noted since the 1960s for his wittily iconoclastic images and his enigmatic intermingling of autobiographical and philosophical references. Illustrations of mixed-media assemblages (most in the form of guitars), paintings, watercolors and other works on paper accompany a critical essay which explores the significance of music in Wiley's oeuvre and discusses the social and artistic concerns reflected in the exhibited pieces.
