REMBRANDT BY HIMSELF. Glasgow Museums & Art Gallery, 1990. 48 pp. with 29 ills. (4 col.). 27 x 21 cm. ISBN 0901557749 In English.
Surveying prints and paintings by Rembrandt drawn chiefly from British collections, this catalogue features two essays interpreting the artist's lifelong series of self-portraits as reflecting a conscious quest to illuminate his own psyche and to define himself within a society increasingly concerned with individualism. A third text, focused on four paintings dating from 1629 to 1669, describes the methodology used by the Rembrandt Research Project to authenticate works by the Dutch artist.
