Printmaking achievements spanning five centuries are illuminated through illustrations and individual discussions of some 150 works by numerous European artists (among them Schongauer, Goltzius, Durer, Callot, Rembrandt, Piranesi and Bracquemond) and by such American figures as Whistler, Johns, Benton, Sloan and Frankenthaler. Also included is a selectively illustrated checklist documenting more than 1100 sheets in the Museum's collection, which encompasses prints by Japanese and Mexican artists as well as many works by lesser-known figures of the New Deal era.
