Fine full-page reproductions and informative commentaries are provided for 100 watercolors dating from the late 16th to the late 19th century from the British Museum collection, representing the varied approaches to landscape of some 70 artists (among them Gainsborough, Rowlandson, Blake, Girtin, Turner, Constable, Cotman, Palmer and Ruskin). The great majority of the catalogue texts and the featured works were previously published in Stainton's British Landscape Watercolors, 1600-1860 (Worldwide 19937), produced for the Museum's 1985 exhibition.
