Presents scholarly treatments of some 150 paintings and drawings from churches, museums and private collections in Pisa by artists active in the city during the 18th century. Included are more than 50 portraits and religious and allegorical studies by Giovan Battista Tempesti, 20 landscapes and capricci by Gherardo and Giuseppe Poli, and canvases by Giovanni Domenico Ferretti and native Pisan painters Giuseppe and Francesco Melani. Three essays concisely examine the primary influences on the city's artists, the conservation of murals in the region, and the principal features of Pisan architecture of the period.
