Accompanying an exhibition of more than 260 drawings and eleven objects loaned from Vienna's Osterreichisches Museum fur angewandte Kunst, this small catalogue surveys the full range of designs by Austrian Secessionist artist Hoffmann (1870-1956), selectively illustrating architectural and interior studies and drawings for furniture, ceramics, glassware, utensils, lighting fixtures, jewelry, fabrics and other diverse items. Two brief critical essays (one reprinted) describe the character of Hoffmann's approach to design and architecture in its historical context.
