MARIO SIRONI: IL MITO DELL'ARCHITETTURA (Mario Sironi: The Myth of Architecture). Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea, Milan, 1990. Published by Nuove edizioni Gabriele Mazzotta, Milan. 228 pp. with 449 ills. (30 col.). 23 x 24 cm. LC 91-133975 ISBN 8820209683 In Italian.
This well-illustrated catalogue examines the primary importance of the urban landscape as a motif in the oeuvre of celebrated Novecento painter Sironi (1885-1961) and also extensively explores the artist's involvement in architectural projects during the 1920s and 30s. An introductory survey of Sironi's career and illustrations of 64 paintings and other works precede substantial documentation of the artist's collaborations with architects Giovanni Muzio and Giuseppe Terragni (chiefly in the design of monumental exposition structures) and a review of Sironi's numerous independent architectural and interior designs.
