An enlightening study of the involvement of Latvian artists in early 20th-century European art movements, this well-illustrated catalogue presents nearly 200 rarely exhibited paintings, drawings, theater designs, sculptures, prints and painted porcelain works, most drawn from national collections in Riga. Eight essays examine the links between Latvian art of the period and concurrent developments in Berlin, Paris and Moscow; discuss such individual figures as Karlis Padegs and Romans Suta; and describe the Social Realist, Expressionist, Constructivist and indigenous styles reflected in the exhibited works.
