The first major survey of the diverse oeuvre of German artist Bergmann-Michel, a pioneer in modernist collage in the 1920s and 30s, this catalogue documents some 250 works ranging from Expressionist landscapes and Constructivist collages to biomorphic abstractions and complex grid-like string compositions. Four essays discuss the artist's stylistic development, her experimental techniques (developed in collaboration with her husband Robert Michel), her commercial graphic design, and her film work and photographs of the 1930s.
