OP THOMAS SCHUTTE. Kunsthalle, Bern, 1990. Organized in association with Musee d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris and Stedelijk Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven. 152 pp. with 134 ills. (53 col.). 27 x 21 cm. LC 90-202383 ISBN 3857800658 Bilingual in English and Dutch.
Principally documenting a diverse seven-part installation composed of miniature buildings, wall-hung banner paintings, figurative watercolors and a large-scale abstract sculpture, this catalogue also illustrates numerous works of the past decade by enigmatic German artist Schutte (b. 1954), including his site-specific outdoor sculptures. Three essays and a brief reprinted interview with the artist address such subjects as the "topography" of his work, his use of maquettes, and the apparent stylistic and thematic disjointedness of his oeuvre.
