CAREL VISSER. Sprengel Museum and Niedersachsisches Landesmuseum, Hannover, 1990. 80 pp. with 47 ills. (15 col.). 28 x 25 cm. LC 90-215561 ISBN 3891690533 Bilingual in English and German.
Surveying works of the 1980s by Visser (b. 1928), a major figure in postwar Dutch sculpture, this catalogue illustrates eight large-scale collages, several abstract drawings and 26 allusive assemblages of such found materials as automobile parts, sheep's wool, oil drums, tires and tree stumps. Two essays evaluate the significance of Visser's recent improvisational sculptures in the context of the geometric metal compositions for which he gained renown in the 1960s and 70s.
